Late Edo Early Japanese Meiji Wooden Shi shi with Cub

Item # 5616

A half relief Japanese wooden carving of a karashishi and her cub. The female shi shi is shown with her right paw resting gently on the back of her cub. Fine detailing to the curly main and tail. Condition is very good a few very minor nicks as wood be expected for a piece that dates from the 1850 to 1860, the late Edo to very early Meiji period. The piece measures 16 and one quarter inches long by 6 and one quarter inches wide and 3 and one quarter inches thick.

Item # 5842

19th century polychrome carved wood crucifix or santo. The Virgin Mary in red and blue robes prays at the base of the cross. The body of Jesus and the halos of both figures are worn gold leaf. Origin unknown, but probably Mexican or South American. The paint is all original. It measures 14 and one half inches high x 7 inches wide x 2 inches deep.
